A roof warranty splits into two parts. The manufacturer warranty covers the shingles and the parts that make up the roof system. The workmanship warranty covers the labor that installed them. Note that no federal tax credit applies to a new roof in 2026, so a warranty is the only money protection on the job. Bork Roofing holds GAF Master Elite status, which opens the strongest GAF warranty tiers to you, including Golden Pledge coverage. Call (208) 869-6674 with questions.

Homeowners hunting for roofers offering warranty protection on a Treasure Valley roof should ask two questions before signing anything. Who backs the products? Who backs the labor? This page answers both in plain words.

Warranty

What does a roof warranty actually cover?

Think of your roof as a product and a service. The product side covers architectural shingles like GAF Timberline HDZ, plus system parts such as synthetic underlayment, ice and water shield, starter strips and ridge caps. The service side covers the installation itself: flashing details, nailing patterns, ventilation work and sealing. Each side has its own warranty, its own paperwork and its own path to a fix.

What to know

What is the GAF Golden Pledge warranty?

The GAF Golden Pledge warranty is GAF’s strongest residential tier. Only GAF Master Elite contractors can offer it, and GAF holds that group to a small share of roofers. The program pairs long product coverage with a workmanship component and an inspection of the finished install. GAF’s published comparison lists 50 year non-prorated material defect coverage and up to 30 years of workmanship coverage at this tier. The workmanship years on your own project come from your paperwork, so ask for the term in writing on your estimate.

Bork Roofing’s GAF Master Elite listing is public, so you can check the status yourself before you sign anything. The link sits in the Sources line below.

Two other names come up at most estimates: GAF Timberline HDZ, the workhorse architectural shingle on valley homes, and the mid-level GAF tiers that sit between standard coverage and Golden Pledge. The right tier depends on how long you plan to own the home and how much risk you want to carry yourself.

Detail

What voids a roof warranty?

Coverage has conditions, and most of them come down to keeping the roof system whole:

  • A layover instead of a tear off. New shingles over old ones trap heat and can cut or end product coverage.
  • Poor attic ventilation. Shingle makers call for balanced intake and exhaust, like soffit vents paired with a ridge vent. Heat and trapped moisture bake shingles from below and warp roof decking.
  • Pressure washing. It strips granules off shingles and ends coverage fast.
  • Unapproved repairs. A patch with the wrong parts or the wrong fasteners can end coverage on the whole slope.
  • Hardware mounted through shingles. Satellite dishes, solar mounts and swamp cooler stands need proper flashing, not just screws and caulk.

None of this means you stop caring for the roof. Keep gutters clear, trim overhanging branches, and book a roof inspection after any big storm. Storm damage itself is an insurance matter, not a warranty matter; the insurance claims page explains that lane.

A quick note on paperwork: keep your invoice and photograph your attic vents once a year. If a claim ever comes up, proof of maintenance and proof of a proper install both speed up the fix.

In practice

Do I need to register my roof warranty?

Standard product coverage usually applies without paperwork. Upgraded tiers work differently: the contractor registers the installation with the manufacturer, and you get warranty documents naming your home, your products and your coverage dates. Keep them with your closing papers. If you sell, some coverage can transfer to the buyer when the paperwork gets filed on time.

Ask your roofer for copies before the crew leaves the street. If you lose them, call the office and ask for replacements; the job file keeps the record either way.

One more habit worth keeping: after any big hail or wind event, note the date in your phone and book a roof inspection. Storm dates matter to insurance carriers, and inspection records prove the roof was sound before the storm rolled through.

Good to know

How do you pick a roofer by warranty?

Warranty strength starts with who installs the roof, so compare coverage as you compare bids. The roof replacement cost guide shows how warranty tiers change the price, and the roof replacement page covers the install itself. Get every number in writing: the manufacturer warranty tier, the workmanship warranty years, and what each one asks of you.
