Pitch and access
Roof pitch sets crew speed and safety needs. A walkable 4/12 roof moves fast. A steep 10/12 pitch calls for ropes, anchors, staging and slower, more careful work, so labor climbs with the slope. Access matters too. A tight lot, tall stories, gardens to protect or a long carry from the truck to the roof all add hours, and hours are money on a roofing bid.
Tear-off layers
A full tear off strips the roof to bare decking so the crew can see what the old shingles were hiding. One layer comes off fast. Two or three layers mean more labor, more debris and higher disposal fees. Crews count the layers during the inspection, so the quote covers removal as its own line item.
