How to Find a Roofing Contractor: A Six-Point Checklist
Homeowners type who is the best roofing company into a search bar and get ads, rankings and slogans. Skip the noise and run every candidate through the same six checks:
- Idaho contractor registration with a current RCE number
- Liability insurance certificate, sent directly from the insurer if you want to be thorough
- Manufacturer certifications that back the products being quoted
- Recent, detailed local reviews and a physical local address
- A written scope listing every layer and both warranties
- Clear answers about who actually does the work: employees or subcontractors
A contractor that clears all six is registered and insured in the everyday sense that matters, with the certificates to back it up. The National Roofing Contractors Association publishes hiring guidance for homeowners that runs down the same checks.
Are Roofers Licensed in Idaho?

This surprises a lot of people: Idaho does not license roofers as a trade. Contractors register with the state through the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses and receive RCE numbers, and you can look any registration up yourself on the state’s site. Registration proves identity and legal standing; it does not grade craftsmanship. That is why the other five checks exist.
Bork Roofing’s registration is RCE-6110, and we hand it out before anyone asks. Any established company should do the same.
What Do Manufacturer Certifications Mean?
Shingle makers audit and certify the contractors who install their products, and those tiers do real vetting work for you. A GAF certified contractor (GAF’s entry-level tier) has met factory standards; the GAF Master Elite tier above it requires more training and a longer record, and comes with access to the strongest GAF warranty tiers. That last part matters: the best manufacturer warranty options are only available through contractors the manufacturer has certified.
Certifications pair with reputation. Read idaho roofing contractors reviews on Google and the Better Business Bureau, and look for detail, dates and photos rather than star counts. Bork Roofing holds a 5.0 Google rating and BBB A+ accreditation dating to 2011; you can read our customer reviews and judge the pattern yourself.
Watch for Red Flags After a Storm
Knowing what a proper installation includes is the fastest way to tell a real bid from a sales pitch. Storm damage brings out-of-state door knockers. Be careful with anyone who shows up uninvited, demands a large deposit in cash, offers to “cover your deductible” or pushes you to sign before an insurance adjuster has seen the roof. Deductible games can cross legal lines, and a crew with no local address is hard to find when the roof leaks in February.
A local company handles claims in the open: document the damage, write the scope, meet the adjuster. That is exactly how our insurance claim help works.
Questions to Ask Before You Sign
People ask how do i find a reliable roofer in my area, and the last mile is a short conversation. Ask each finalist: Who supervises my job on site? What happens if you find rotted decking? How do you protect flower beds and lawns? When do payments come and what triggers them? How are workmanship warranty claims handled two years from now?
Then get a written free roof estimate and compare scopes, not just totals, for your roof replacement or roof repair. Bork Roofing has answered these questions for Boise homeowners since 2004, in English and Spanish. Learn more about our team or call (208) 869-6674 and put us through the checklist.
